Hot tubs and spas offer relaxation and Hydrotherapy but require various tools, chemicals, and accessories to maintain their functionality and cleanliness. Documenting these items during an insurance Claim or construction project is essential to ensure everything is accounted for.

This guide will help homeowners create a comprehensive inventory of the tools, chemicals, and accessories associated with maintaining and enhancing hot tubs and spas.

### Types of Hot Tubs & Spas

**Portable**Hot Tub**:** An inflatable or pre-fabricated unit that can be moved and set up easily. Portable hot tubs usually include basic jets and heating systems, requiring minimal installation and basic maintenance tools. For reference, these are treated as Personal Property.

**In-Ground Spa:** A permanent spa built into the ground, often integrated with an in-ground pool or designed as a standalone unit. These spas typically include advanced jet systems and customized features, requiring more maintenance and specific chemicals. Unlike portable hot tubs, because these are permanently installed, the equipment associated with these would be part of your Secondary Structures coverage (though the smaller items like tools, chemicals and accessories are still part of your Personal Property coverage).

**Swim Spa:** A hybrid between a pool and a spa, offering both hydrotherapy and the ability to swim in place. Swim spas often have multiple zones, each with different water temperatures and jet configurations. Like In-Ground Spas, these are generally relatively permanent structures.

**Wood-Fired Hot Tub:** A traditional-style hot tub heated by a wood-burning stove, often located outdoors in natural surroundings. These tubs may not have the advanced jets of modern spas but still require care and cleaning tools. Accounting for these in your insurance Policy depends on whether the Tub is more or less permanently installed or if it’s relatively portable. Use your best judgement.

This generally includes items such as clothing, furniture, toys, jewelry, household appliances and artwork as well as some more subtle things such as cash, food and even your identity.

Also sometimes referred to as Coverage B in your policy. This can also be a second section in your dwelling coverage - depends on your insurance issuer. That said, the concept is the same and this bucket of coverage includes everything permanently attached to your property but not your primary home itself. This includes detached garages, sheds, guest houses, fences and driveways. This does not cover the personal property in those buildings (those are in Bucket C)
