###

Fountains and ponds add beauty and tranquility to outdoor spaces, but they require various tools, accessories, and maintenance supplies to keep them functioning smoothly. Documenting these items during an insurance Claim or construction project is important to ensure that all belongings are accounted for.

Much like our other articles, this guide helps homeowners create a comprehensive inventory of the tools and accessories associated with maintaining and enhancing fountains and ponds.

### Types of Fountains & Ponds

**Decorative**Fountain**:** A standalone or integrated Water Feature, often including tiers or spouts that circulate water for visual and auditory enjoyment. These can range from small tabletop models to large garden centerpieces.

**Garden**Pond**:** A pond typically built into the landscape, often housing Aquatic Plants, fish, and decorative elements. Garden ponds usually require pumps, filtration systems, and aerators to maintain water quality.

Koi**Pond:** A pond specifically designed to house koi fish. These ponds often require additional care and equipment, such as specialized filtration systems, Aeration, and water heaters to ensure the health of the fish.

**Waterfall Pond:** A pond with a cascading waterfall, which adds a dynamic element to the landscape. Waterfalls are powered by pumps and may require additional tubing and fittings to circulate water efficiently.

## Wrap-Up

To be clear, some of these items may be better accounted for in your Secondary Structures coverage if the fountain or pond is a permanent fixture of the property. Use your best judgement, and in the meantime this inventory guide helps keep track of the tools, accessories, and maintenance items associated with your fountains and ponds.

A well-maintained inventory will simplify the insurance claim process or make renovation projects more efficient, ensuring that your water features remain beautiful and functional for years to come.

A formal request made by the policyholder (you) to your insurance company for coverage or payment for a covered loss.

A decorative structure that pumps water into the air or through a series of vessels, often for aesthetic purposes or drinking.

An element such as a pond, fountain, or waterfall used to add visual and auditory interest to a landscape.

A body of water smaller than a lake, often artificially made.

Plants that grow in water or very moist environments.

A type of ornamental fish commonly kept in ponds.

The process of perforating the soil to improve air, water, and nutrient penetration.

Simple non-flowering plants that grow in water and can affect water quality and appearance.

A device installed in the side of the pool that helps to remove debris from the surface of the water.

Materials inside the filter that trap and remove dirt from water.

A pump that operates while submerged in water.

A device that uses ultraviolet light to kill algae and pathogens in pond water.

A device added to the tip of a faucet that mixes air with water to reduce water flow, which conserves water and reduces splashing.

Chemical used to prevent algae growth.

A chemical or device that removes chlorine from water, typically used when filling the pond.

Sludge composed of fish waste, plant material, and other organic debris accumulated at the bottom of a pond.

A coloring agent that enhances the aesthetic of pond water and can reduce sunlight penetration to control algae growth.

A device that removes hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium) from the water supply.

A valve controlled by a handle and a ball with a hole through it. Rotating the ball 90 degrees opens or closes the valve.\n

A pipe that allows excess water to drain away from a tank to prevent overfilling.

Also sometimes referred to as Coverage B in your policy. This can also be a second section in your dwelling coverage - depends on your insurance issuer. That said, the concept is the same and this bucket of coverage includes everything permanently attached to your property but not your primary home itself. This includes detached garages, sheds, guest houses, fences and driveways. This does not cover the personal property in those buildings (those are in Bucket C)
